Balearic Island day - 01.Mar.2011



The 1st March is held Balearic Islands Day. This was the date that in 1983 “Estatuto de Autonomia de las Islas Baleares” (Balearic Islands Act or Statute of Autonomy). To celebrate this day they are held different activities, like as a reward ceremony for distinguished citizens of the Balearic Islands in the last year or music concerts performed by Illes Balears Symphonic Orquestra.

Also is tradition a medieval themed market in Parc de la Mar with good made with ancient techniques( majorcan textiles, candels, traditional pastries, toys, Wrought iron works, shoes, ….).


One of the featured activities is the guided tours to Consolat del Mar, where the Balearic Governament (Govern Balear) has its headquarters to find out how it works and the building. Next to la Lonja (Formerly Wholesale fish market), cultural space is going to reopen soon. El Consolat de Mar is a gothic-style building, formerly a warehouse of La Lonja and several institutions of maritime law from 19th century.

It’s a holiday day to enjoy Majorca in a less traditional and touristic way
